With their seemingly unflattering chemical base notes — woody with the faintest trace of citrus — Comme des Garçons perfumes are not easy to love. They’re jarring and uncomfortable—a deliberate break from the norm. We’re not invited to fantasise about a dream world nor an idealised version of beauty. Instead, we’re placed on the edge of discomfort to question the very nature of beauty and luxury. In many ways, in true Rei Kawakubo fashion, they’re the last true punks of scent.
