Subaru world: world-building across disciplines, cultures, and mediums

Nigerian multi-disciplinary artist and singer-songwriter Cruel Santino and character design producer Upson joined Dazed MENA’s creative director, Chndy, for the final Sole DXB x Dazed MENA talk on Sunday, December 15, in front of a full house of people eager to hear their insights on art, music, and storytelling.

Santino delved into his creative influences – which include legendary game designer Hideo Kojima – and he shared the story of how a childhood crush introduced him to the immersive world of storytelling and world-building that defines his work today. He also reflected on the artistic journey that took him from Nigeria to Dubai and Sole DXB. Upson offered a glimpse into his creative process, explaining how observing people and everyday life fuels his art. He also spoke about how the music of Gorillaz sparked his imagination and shaped the unlikely path that led him to become an artist after initially studying Economics in Canada.
