Nazarit Machin: The Colombian model making her mark on global runways

Offering representation and inspiration, one runway at a time

Text Maya Abuali

At just 17 years old, Nazarit Machin made history as the first Colombian model to debut for Louis Vuitton, walking the iconic fashion house’s Fall/Winter 2022 Ready-to-Wear show in Paris. Born in Santander de Quilichao, Colombia, she grew up far from the high-gloss world she now commands. Today, based in London, Nazarit is steadily building on an already impressive career—her presence on international runways and in major campaigns marking her as one of the most exciting new faces in fashion.

Her journey into the fashion realm began with serendipity. In a shopping mall in Cali, a talent scout spotted her—barely 16 at the time—on what was meant to be an ordinary day out with the family. The encounter was anything but. Within a week, Machin was signed to NV Models under the mentorship of Fabio Arias, a director who became her guide through the labyrinthine world of modelling. Fabio taught her how to pose, stride, and own a room—and own it, she did, with all the determination she continues to carry. “I was inspired by the idea that modelling could help me learn about the world,” Nazarit tells Dazed MENA. “I still want to learn and improve myself every day.”

Nazarit soon signed with major agency IMG Models, setting her sights on the international stage. By March 2022, she was en route to Paris, where she walked as a worldwide exclusive for Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter collection. Stepping onto the runway at the Musée d’Orsay she became the first Colombian model to debut for the house. Designer Nicolas Ghesquière’s collection, an ode to the volatility and creativity of adolescence, found a natural complement in Nazarit’s striking presence. Her luminous beauty and chic look gave life to the collection’s fluid silhouettes and playful takes on school uniforms. Shrugged in iterations of academic attire, from kilts to oversized cardigans, Nazarit shared the stage with global stars like actress HoYeon Jung.

Nazarit’s Afro-Colombian and Indigenous heritage is central to her work. She views modelling as a platform to tell stories, engage with cultures, and inspire young women to pursue dreams that might otherwise feel out of reach. “Stepping out of my comfort zone, taking risks, trying new things, and learning about new cultures and languages have been the defining moments of my career,” Nazarit shares with Dazed MENA. “Perhaps seeing my journey and success will help other girls take the first step or help them find the courage that they need to believe in themselves.”

The young model’s career has since been a dizzying whirlwind. From Dior and Miu Miu, to Chloe, Celine and Off-White, she’s perpetually jet-set, gracing the most prestigious runways in Milan, Paris, Mumbai, Mexico City, and London. It was only this February that she made her New York debut with Tommy Hilfiger, with a presence as striking as her portfolio. This September, she adorned the cover of Vogue Latin America, a radiant tribute to her heritage that had her profile framed by a vivid collage of nature-inspired imagery. For Nazarit, the cover was a full-circle moment—a powerful representation by a fashion platform that speaks to where she comes from. As she continues to dominate the world’s most storied fashion capitals, Colombia is walking with her every step down the runway.
