Malian photographer Emile-Samory Fofana joins forces with Sri-Lanka born stylist Jenn Abery to craft a hybrid universe where cultures, textures, and traditions intertwine effortlessly, bridging their distinct yet complementary perspectives.
This editorial titled “bumping my ribcage against the wall of reality” captures the vibrant spirit of youth: resilient, unapologetic, and deeply connected to their roots. Far from urban narratives, the shoot finds inspiration in Senegal’s rural landscapes, drawing on the raw beauty of sand, horns, nature, and farms. This visual ode celebrates authenticity and originality, reflecting the bond between the earth, early labor practices like agriculture, and traditions embedded in these spaces.
Through their shared vision, Emile-Samory and Jenn create characters that embody strength, individuality, and storytelling through fashion. Their collaboration is as much an exploration of identity as it is a reclamation of rural narratives—subverting expectations and reimagining the intersection of cultural worlds. This work celebrates the creative possibilities born from diversity while reclaiming spaces and stories often overlooked.
