Fashion’s game of musical chairs continues as Kim Jones says bye to Fendi

Fashion’s frantic game of musical chairs is still nowhere near done, as Kim Jones announced his departure from Fendi this week. After three years in the role, the designer will be stepping down from his role as creative director of the Italian behemoth’s womenswear line and focusing fully on his menswear gig at Dior.
The news comes just short of a week after Hedi Slimane was revealed to be out at Celine, with Michael Rider announced as his successor in the top spot just hours later. Previously creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren, Rider has the chops for the role, given he worked under Phoebe Philo at the house during her tenure there.
So who will go to Fendi? Right now, rumours are swirling that Pierpaolo Piccioli might be heading there after his quarter-century stint at Valentino, while social media commentators suggest John Galliano or Marc Jacobs might be in with a chance.
With Jones out, it means there’s jobs at two of the biggest houses in fashion now going, with Chanel also still looking for its top dog. Whispers for that one include Slimane, which would make sense given Karl Lagerfeld was a massive stan, as well as Simon Porte Jacquemus and campy king Jeremy Scott, who was previously at Moschino.
In other news this week, Marco Capaldo of 16Arlington curated an art show in which Sonic Youth will read you a poem, the Met Gala theme for 2025 was announced, Jasmina TV took us on a vintage hunt at LA’s Rosebowl flea market, and IB Kamara gave us the rundown on his SS25 Off-White collection.
