Mens Fashion Week AW25 trend analysis
Text Zein Karam
Cyclical trends are all the rage these days. More often than not, today, taking a plunge into the archives and reversing back through time, we can see into the future of fashion. This AW25 Menswear dialled up inspiration from the past and presented it with current elegance. Harvey Nichols – Dubai understands these trends, which is why we’ve teamed up with them to present you with a comprehensive list of trends to look out for.
Peter Copping’s debut at Lanvin leaned heavily into nostalgia, specifically tapping into the 20s and 30s with flapper silhouettes and eccentric textures which spoke to the past. From intricately embroidered pieces to fringe, amplifying a sense of grandeur, all while subtly nodding to Jeanne Lanvin’s iconic craftsmanship. Similarly, Simon Jacquemus’ collection was also rooted in inspiration from the early 20th century. Jacquemus spoke of a French American fusion with aspects of leather inspired by American football players and post-war tailoring.
Incorporating elements from the 20s and 30s while maintaining modern relevance could suggest a sense of romanticism, nostalgia, and a celebration of heritage. It’s about reinterpreting the opulence of that time with an eye toward today’s more minimalist, thoughtful approach to design. The mix of old-world glamour with modern lines is reflected in tailoring and drapery that continue to be seen on the runway this season.

Sacai’s collaboration with Carhartt acts as a reflection of our wild side and our inner child. The show was inspired by ‘Where The Wild Things Are’, using the characters as inspiration through wild hair, deconstructed silhouettes, faux furs. We observed workwear jackets reimagined as pleated dresses, a fusion of industrial ruggedness with delicate, feminine elements. The mix of durable, raw fabrics interspersed with soft pleats and fluff–Chitose Abe is asking us to use our imagination and have fun, even as adults. Sacai is known for its innovative layering techniques, and this collab has pushed these boundaries further by mixing utilitarian workwear cuts with more whimsical, fantastical designs. Fashion is supposed to be fun and can be messy; this is a call to embrace that.

This isn’t too dissimilar to Wooyoungmi’s AW25 collection as her take on military-inspired outerwear and high tailoring, with a feminine twist, brings a thoughtful balance of masculinity and femininity. Military garments often feature tough, structured fabrics, but Wooyoungmi softens these elements with rose embellishments on her tailored coats, and tighter waistlines. There is room to play, and there is room for both the delicate and strong.
