Tod’s resurrects its cult loafer for Spring/Summer 2026, with a few twists

Creative Director Matteo Tamburini rebuilds the Gommino’s world for a modern audience

Long before casual footwear like sneakers and slides became luxury flexes in their own right, the driving moccasin had carved out a place for itself as a symbol of laidback affluence. Defined by its flexible construction and distinctive rubber pebble sole, at the time, it offered an alternative to the rigidity of traditional leather shoes. When Tod’s introduced its own take on the item in the form of the Gommino in the 70s, it quickly became one of the Italian house’s signature pieces.

The iconic shoe has now become the focal point of the brand’s campaign for its Men’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, staged inside Villa Necchi Campiglio, a heritage home in Milan supported by Tod’s Group since 2009. Creative Director Matteo Tamburini presents a range of relaxed silhouettes, from unstructured jackets to flowing trousers, and, of course, modern reinterpretations of the Gommino.

The collection features premium materials, including Pashmy, an extremely lightweight leather suede developed through extensive research, which gives an almost silky finish to bombers and coach jackets. The newly developed, ultra-soft Travel-wool is also introduced in airport-ready outerwear and trousers, while linen, in its crepe, satin, and linen-silk versions, adds an airy look to garments like the season’s new safari jacket.

Coming back to the Gommino, the moccasin is reimagined in bubble, boat shoe, and slipper variations, as well as with loafer and sneaker soles. An unstructured loafer, finished with a saddle-inspired metal buckle, adds interest to the line.

The bags in the collection balance functionality with aesthetics, including the Di Bag Folio tote and canvas-and-leather trekking backpacks. The Greca Belt, interweaving rope and leather, rounds things off on the accessory front.

If you’re looking for new inspiration for wardrobe essentials, the Tod’s Spring/Summer 2026 lineup is a great place to start.
