Giveon’s tracks get a second spin, with the perfect outfits to match
Text Gayathri Pullare
What would you wear if you were going to star in an R&B music video? If edgy, streetwear-influenced styling, denim-heavy outfits, and bright, bold pops of colour come to mind, then you already know that music and fashion have always been part of the same conversation, curating a certain aesthetic depending on the genre you’re looking at. That creative overlap is the main focus of H&M&REDSTAGE, a new H&M initiative that examines how style and sound shape artistic identity.
The project pairs established musicians with rising voices to reimagine existing material through a new lens. First up is Giveon, whose velvety tones have become a defining sound in modern R&B. For the inaugural release, he personally selected two artists to join him – Australia-based experimental vocalist Dhee and London-born performer Absolutely.

Dhee takes on Like I Want You, the lead single from Giveon’s debut album, delivering a genre-blending take that reflects her unique approach to sound and her interest in reshaping perceptions of South Asian music. Meanwhile, Absolutely turns her attention to Heartbreak Anniversary, bringing her wide-ranging influences and dynamic vocal range to the viral 2020 hit.
Dhee and Absolutely both spoke about the collaboration as an homage to the differences, inspirations, and experiences that set each musician apart from the rest.
The partnership with H&M also sees Giveon revisiting his own catalogue, recording fresh takes on Rather Be and Twenties. Hearing other artists reshape his songs proved unexpectedly moving, he explains, describing the experience as surprising and enriching, making him fall in love with the tracks all over again.
The first H&M&REDSTAGE recordings will land on Spotify and Apple Music on March 13, perfectly primed for playlists around the world.
